Team iGEM Amsterdam 2011 is the first team in the history of iGEM to represent the Dutch capital. The team is composed of 7 students of the city's two universities: the Vrije Universiteit (VU) and the Universiteit van Amsterdam (UvA). Their advisors are also employed by either of these institutes. They work in lab and office space offered to them by the Swammerdam Institute of Life Sciences (SILS); one of the UvA's departments.
