Judging Form

Team:

Hong_Kong-CUHK

Region:

Asia

Track:

Foundational Advance

iGEM Year:

2011

Project Name:

ChloriColight

Project Abstract:

"Control of gene switch by phototuning
Conventional induction systems usually involve addition of a chemical agent that functions either by turning on or off an output event, which is equivalent to flipping an on/off switch. In our project, we aim to replace such analog system with a phototunable cascade, which can trigger a measurable output (e.g. gene expression) according to the wavelengths, intensities, and durations of a light source in a quantitative manner. In the long run, this system could be further modified to convert light into other types of output, such as osmolality and electric current."

iGEM Medals for Non-Software Teams

Webelieve our team deserves thefollowing medal:  þBronze þSilver þGold

Because wemet the following criteria (check all that apply and provide details whereneeded)

Requirements for aBronze Medal:

þRegister the team, have a great summer, and planto have fun at the Regional Jamboree.

þSuccessfully complete and submit this iGEM 2011Judging form.

þCreate and share a Description of the team'sproject using the iGEM wiki and the team's parts using the Registry of StandardBiological Parts.

þPlan to present a Poster and Talk at the iGEMJamboree.

þEnter information detailing at least one newstandard BioBrick Part or Device in the Registry of Standard Biological Parts.Including:

 þPrimarynucleic acid sequence

 þDescriptionof function

 þAuthorship

 þSafetynotes, if relevant.

 þAcknowledgmentof sources and references

þSubmit DNA for at least one new BioBrick Part orDevice to the Registry.

Additional Requirements for a Silver Medal:

þDemonstrate that at least one new BioBrick Partor Device of your own design and construction works as expected; characterizethe operation of your new part/device.

þEnter this information and other documentation onthe part's 'Main Page' section of the Registry

Part Number(s): BBa_K559000, BBa_K559010

AdditionalRequirements for a Gold Medal: (One or More)

☐Improvean existing BioBrick Part or Device and enter this information back on theExperience Page of the Registry.

þHelp another iGEM team by, for example, characterizing apart, debugging a construct, or modeling or simulating their system.

iGEM Prizes

All teams are eligible for special prizes at theRegional Jamborees. The special prizes include Best Wiki, BestPoster, Best Presentation, Best New BioBrick Part (Natural or Engineered). Tohelp the judges, please indicate if you feel you should be evaluated for any ofthe following special prizes:

☐BestHuman Practice Advance

þBest Experimental Measurement

☐BestModel

Please explain briefly why you should receive anyof these three special prizes:

Precise measurement of theefficiency and optimization of the innovative applications with our biobrickshas been done. Furthermore, the phototuning ability of our biobricks'applications has also been measured. Measurement of biobrick performance wascarried out to make it a regulated system.

Team_Parts

To help the judges evaluate your parts, pleaseidentify 3 of your parts that you feel are best documented and are of thehighest quality.

Part Number(s): BBa_K559000BBa_K559010

Your team has listed these parts as your teamfavorites:

iGEMSafety

For iGEM 2011 teams are asked to detail how theyapproached any issues of biological safety associated with their projects.

The iGEM judges expect that you have answered thefour safety questions on your iGEM 2011 wiki.

Please provide the link to that page:

Attributions and Contributions

For iGEM 2011 the description of each projectmust clearly attribute work done by the team and distinguish it from work doneby others, including the host labs, advisors, and instructors.

Please provide the link to that page:
