Protocol:
- fill one 100 ml jar with 75 mL milli-Q H2O, add 2.78 g melanterite until dissolved
- Add 20 mL (1 M) NaOH, bring to final volume of 100 mL
- cap and incubate at 37 oC for 4 hours, agitating at 30 min intervals
- purify with 1 M HNO3 (nitric acid)
- dry and weigh
Time in incubator: 11:40, agitated once every half hour for 4 hours
Time out of incubator: 3:40 pm
- observed black precipitate in solution and purified it as per the purification protocol developed by Adam and Nicole
XRD results from June 30th indicate that this reaction yielded magnetite nanocrystals of high purity
