Synthetic biology has the potential to revolutionize traditional genetics experiments.
G3: Genes | Genomes | Genetics is a new open access journal that recognizes this potential. Have you ever considered publishing your iGEM research project in a peer-reviewed journal?
G3 meets the critical and growing need of the genetics community for rapid review and publication of important results in all areas of genetics, with an emphasis on research issuing from the emerging style of genetics research, with its increasing reliance on genome sequence information.
G3's articles describe useful, well-executed and lucidly-interpreted genetic studies of all kinds, including research that generates datasets such as genome maps, genome-wide association and QTL studies, mutant screens, advances in methods and technology, and more.
Synthetic biology and iGEM
G3 publishes:
- Research of interest to a wide range of biological disciplines, including microbiology, mycology, zoology, botany, and agriculture.
- Research in established and emerging model organisms;
- Research in human and medical genetics;
G3 focuses on:
- Datasets (e.g., genetic screens, functional genomics, population sequence, analysis of genomes, transcriptomes, proteomes, quantitative analysis of phenotypes, analysis of genetic pathways, insights from genome analysis of emerging systems).
- Sequence of novel species
- Genome maps (genetic and physical), especially including those of emerging model systems and less well studied organisms
- Genome-wide association studies (GWAS)
- Population data (e.g. QTL studies)
- Studies on gene, protein and other biological networks
- New methods and technologies for the production and analysis of large-scale genetic datasets
- Software for the analysis of genetic data
- Novel mutant collections, and reagents and resources made available to the community for further analysis
The goal of “G3: Genes, Genomes, Genetics” is to publish cutting edge genetics research. It is abundantly clear to us that synthetic biology has the potential to revolutionize traditional genetics approaches.
