Visitors at NASA

We were fortunate this summer to meet a number of NASA officials as they passed through our lab. We explained to them the basic concept of our research and our vision for synthetic biology as the keystone to extraterrestrial settlement and exploration. Of course, we also communicated our enthusiasm for synthetic biology! Our visitors this summer included:

  • The NASA Advisory Council
  • Charles Bolden
  • Members from Representative Zoe Lofgren's office

Additionally, we presented a poster at the [http://lunarscience2011.arc.nasa.gov/ 4th Annual Lunar Science Forum] in July. Although our project centers around Mars, we used both Lunar and Martian regolith in our cementation processes and we realized that the concept of in situ resource utilization can also apply to long-term lunar engagements.
