Home made quick saliva DNA extraction protocol:

  1. Rinse the mouth 5 times with clean water, the last rinse must be deposited in a plastic glass
  2. Prepare a solution with soap and water in a beaker
  3. Add the soap solution to the last rinse
  4. Add frozen (0°C) etanol to the last rinse
  5. Observe how a DNA thread forms, take it and place it in an eppendorf tube.


Abbreviations and glossary:

  • Biobrickoatl:It's the biobrick deity for the Mesoamerican cultures, although at that time they didn't knew what a biobrick meant. The great feathered biobrick serpent vigilates over all new and old biobricks.
  • Competent cells: Cells that can incorporate, in an easier way, foreign DNA into their cell walls.
  • CcaS-EnvZ: Is the green light receptor that induces the expresión of phycobilisome linker protein.
  • CFP: Cyan Fluorescent Protein
  • Crst: Lock for the PbadST (strong, for low concentrations) promoter
  • CrWk: Lock for the Pbad WK (weak, for high concentration) promoter
  • GFP: Green Fluorescent Protein
  • ho1: Heme oxigenase 1
  • iTaST: Inverse TaST, complementary sequence to the Key TaST, blocks TaST activity
  • pBADST: Strong arabinose promoter for low concentration detection.
  • pBADWk: Weak arabinose promoter for high concentration detection.
  • Pcy4A: Phycocyanobilin ferredoxin oxidoreductase.
