What?

In this project a novel sRNA technology for gene silencing in bacteria is developed. The silencing is tunable to a large range of expression levels and can be applied to any gene in most bacteria. The silencing can be turned on and off at any time.

Why?

Gene knockout is a pivotal technique in biology. It is currently a time-consuming process of chromosomal knockout restricted to mostly nonessential genes. No method allows partial gene silencing and no method has applied sRNA to target genes of interest.

How?

The developed technology consists of two small RNAs, which can be configured to target any gene by simply changing the sequence of the RNAs. The expression of the two RNAs controls the silencing of the target gene and can even target multiple targets.
