Travel information

Travel to Hong Kong

By plane

Hong Kong can be reached by plane through Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok International Airport, with connections to major cities throughout the world. The airport offers arriving passengers direct access to hotel shuttle bus, train, taxi and bus.

Hotel shuttle bus

Please check with your hotels for shuttle bus arrangement.

Train

You may take the Airport Express and Mass Transit Railway (MTR) to and from different parts of Hong Kong by interchanging connection at different stations. Both Kowloon and Hong Kong stations provide free in-town check-in services for major airlines, please contact your airline for more information.

Taxi

Taxis are available from the taxi pick-up area in front of the Arrivals Hall. You may take a red (to Hong Kong Island and Kowloon) or green (to New Territories) taxi and fares are metered.

Bus

You may take a bus from the airport to most parts of Hong Kong as well.


By Train

Via Lo Wu (羅湖)and Lok Ma Chau (落馬洲)checkpoints

Teams from Mainland China may travel to Hong Kong via the Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau checkpoints and take the MTR or other public transport after passing through Hong Kong Immigration.

Intercity passenger service

There are intercity passenger services run among Guangdong Province, Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. The train terminus is at MTR Hung Hom Station where passengers could go through Hong Kong Immigration control.


By Ferry

You may take Chu Kong Passenger Transport from eastern coasting of Guang Dong Province and Pearl River Delta to Hong Kong. The terminals are at Macau Ferry Terminal (202 Connaught Road Central (MTR Sheung Wan Station exit D), Central), China Ferry Terminal (33 Canton Road (MTR Tsim Sha Tsui Station exit A1), Kowloon) and Hong Kong International Airport.


Getting to HKUST

Public transportation in Hong Kong is very efficient and getting to and from HKUST by taxi, the MTR , or bus is easy, and is accessible by car. The map shows you the main routes connecting Kowloon and Hong Kong Island to our campus.

From Regal Riverside Hotel to HKUST:
By MTR & bus (approximately 55min):
1. Get on a shuttle bus from hotel to Shatin MTR station, please check the schedule here.
2. Take the train from Shatin to Kowloon Tong, interchange at Kowloon Tong station to Kwun Tong Line, drop off at Choi Hung station (tickets can be purchased from machines in the stations on a trip-by-trip basis or you can purchase octopus cards at MTR customer service counters).
3. At Choi Hung Station Exit C2, get on the bus no. 91 or 91M (HK$5.4 or 6.7) OR the green minibus no.11 or 11S (HK$5.9) to HKUST (please prepare exact coins or use octopus cards).
By Taxi (approximately 20.7km, 28mins & HK$144):

From Royal Park Hotel to HKUST:
By MTR & bus (approximately 55min):
1. Go to the Shatin MTR station.
2. Take the train from Shatin to Kowloon Tong, interchange at Kowloon Tong station to Kwun Tong Line, drop off at Choi Hung station (tickets can be purchased from machines in the stations on a trip-by-trip basis or you can purchase octopus cards at MTR customer service counters).
3. At Choi Hung Station Exit C2, get on the bus no. 91 or 91M (HK$5.4 or 6.7) OR the green minibus no.11 or 11S (HK$5.9) to HKUST (please prepare exact coins or use octopus cards).

From Hyatt Regency Hong Kong (Shatin) Hotel to HKUST:
By MTR & bus (approximately 55min):
1. Go to the University MTR station.
2. Take the train from University to Kowloon Tong, interchange at Kowloon Tong station to Kwun Tong Line, drop off at Choi Hung station (tickets can be purchased from machines in the stations on a trip-by-trip basis or you can purchase octopus cards at MTR customer service counters).
3. At Choi Hung Station Exit C2, get on the bus no. 91 or 91M (HK$5.4 or 6.7) OR the green minibus no.11 or 11S (HK$5.9) to HKUST (please prepare exact coins or use octopus cards).

Octopus card is an electronic stored-value card and is accepted on most public transport, at convenience stores and fast food restaurants. Octopus cards can be purchased at the customer service counters of the Airport Express (at the Airport arrival hall) and within the MTR stations, or at convenience stores. The HK$50 deposit and any remaining money can be refunded when you return the card.

Local transport in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is well-connected with public transport systems. You can get around easily by MTR, Taxi, Bus, Minibus, Ferry and Tram.
