This is a template page. READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
You are provided with this team page template with which to start the iGEM season. You may choose to personalize it to fit your team but keep the same "look." Or you may choose to take your team wiki to a different level and design your own wiki. You can find some examples HERE.
You MUST have a team description page, a project abstract, a complete project description, a lab notebook, and a safety page. PLEASE keep all of your pages within your teams namespace.

You can write a background of your team here. Give us a background of your team, the members, etc. Or tell us more about something of your choosing.

Stepping into the IGEM world for the first time, we studied a huge amount of previous projects and found that light sensing bacteria kept arousing general interest but remain an unsettled issue. Despite the great efforts made by previous teams, little progress was made in this area. Therefore we decide to make some novel attempts.
Firstly, we plan to establish inter-bacteria communication with light as the media. We designed three separate systems and try to coordinate them: the oscillator system, the signal transformation system, and the reaction system. After chemical signals are generated by the oscillator system periodically, the transformation system transforms them into light signals and the reaction system act differently according to the signals. Compared with chemical signals, light signals have several advantages: they can travel without liquid media and can be more easily tested. In a word, we hope to construct a whole system in which different strains of E.coli communicate with each other through three types of light. This is of great significance in automatically manipulating bacteria’s behaviors.
Secondly, we came up with the idea of “colorful E.film” based on previous research of bio-imaging. We hope to create a colorful film instead of a black-and-white one by constructing three E.coli strains which can produce and secrete three primary colors respectively in the presence of different lights. The combination of various concentrations of the primary colors will yield a colorful picture. Therefore, if we use a color picture as an input signal, the output will be the copy of it on the plate. The whole system works as a camera.
The two parts of our project have several components in common, such as the light sensors and pigment producers. And the key word of our project is light sensing. Currently, we have already done pre-experiments and in the next period we will try our best to make the system work. We hope that our colorful E.coli that weaves time and space will shine in this year.
We will keep updating information about our experiments.
Look forward to your attention!
