For iGEM 2011, teams will participate in a two-tiered competition. Regional Jamborees will be held in October and the World Championship Jamboree will be held in November. A percentage of teams from each Regional Jamboree will advance to the World Championship. There will be three Regions for iGEM 2011:
- Americas
- Asia
- Europe
- Europe Regional Jamboree: October 1-2, Amsterdam
- Americas Regional Jamboree: October 8-10, Indianapolis
- Asia Regional Jamboree: October 15-16, Hong Kong
- World Championship Jamboree: November 5-7, MIT, Cambridge, MA
