Abstract

Introduction

We performed following three things in HS near KU and in ELCAS, a special lecture of science, hold by the department of science in KU

・giving a special lecture about SB and iGEM to HS students, including high-motivated JSH students

・having some questionnaires among students on SB. They were asked about anxiety and capacity of SB, interest in iGEM and so on

・introducing iGEM HS division

We went to some HS school around KU and give a short introduction of SB and iGEM, including the attractive points of SB, the way of changing living things by constructing genes and some undergraduate iGEM teams’ activity. In a number of HS, there were some aggressive JSH students. In that case, we add a brief explanation about biochemistry, especially genes, nucleotide, codons and the basic system of gene expression.


Questionnaire

We also carried out some questionnaires about SB. The questions students were asked are written in result page. These surveys were performed not only to research the extent of students’ knowledge and their opinions for biotechnology in ethic viewpoint but also provoke discussions about SB among them,


iGEM HS division

No matter how hard we make effort to tell students the capability of SB and the pleasure of participating in iGEM, HS and JHS students would get bored unless we show them how to join such an excellent world. Due to the curriculum in our country, it is generally difficult for HS students to take part in iGEM undergraduate team, so we decide to tell them HS division and support students who are interested in HS division. There will be many team from Japan in next iGEM HS division.
